Mighty Copernicus is an impressive young crater.  When the sun is high you can see bright rays all around it that extend for hundreds of kilometers.  The three central mountains on its floor are more than a kilometer high.  North of Copernicus lay the Carpatus mountains.  They are billions of years older than the crater.  The Carpatus span about 300 kilometers east to west, and are about 2.5 km high.
