Petavius - 182 km wide, 3.3 km deep
(click on photo for a larger view, then click "back")
Petavius is an old crater (3.8 billion years) that was never flooded with lava. At the telescope you can see a valley that runs from the rim to the central mountain peaks. The mountains are 1.7 km high. The crater that looks like Petavius near the top of the photo is called Langrenus. The white dot to the right is a star in Virgo.
